Barfi's excellent first week collection & its entry into the Oscars

Barfi collected 57.50 Cr nett in its first week as per as early estimates which is just excellent. During the weekdays Barfi was very strong & collected approximately 23.50 Cr nett. Wednesday was a holiday & the movie benefited from it but Thursday was a bandh & the movie suffered for that.

Although there was Bandh on Thursday the major collectors of Barfi that is Delhi & Mumbai cities which remained mainly unaffected from the Bandh show good collections of Barfi. The collection of Barfi in these two major cities mainly remain unaffected due to Bandh.

The first week collection of Barfi is the highest collection ever for a movie of this genre as it is not a masala entertainer as the movie got universal appeal from all over India & has been liked by mass audience.

Now let us take a look at the daily collection of Barfi in Delhi/UP. The collections are rock steady.

Friday - 1.82 Cr

Saturday - 2.49 Cr

Sunday - 2.90 Cr

Monday - 1.51 Cr

Tuesday - 1.22 Cr

Wednesday - 1.15 Cr

Thursday - 1.00 Cr

Barfi showed good jump in collection on wednesday since wednesday was holiday in different parts of the country & Thursday was Bandh all over India. Mainly Maharashtra & Karnataka were holiday on wednesday. The collection on Wednesday was approximately 7 Cr which is excellent. In Mysore the collection on wednesday were nearly twice the collection on Tuesday.

 Thursday got affected due to the bandh as most of the theaters were close on Thursday. The film is looking for a 85 Cr to 90 Cr lifetime collection.  

In Gurgaon the collection of Barfi is higher than that of 2011 hit Don 2. In the year 2011 Don was the best performing film in Gurgaon. And Barfi has beaten that. But in this context it is to be noted that Barfi is an under performer in Gurgaon.

As for 2012 the collection of Barfi at Gurgaon in even higher than Ek Tha Tiger & Cocktail.

The deaf & mute act of superstar Ranbir Kapoor in "Barfi" directed by Anurag Basu has beaten 19 films to be selected India's official entry to the Oscars in 2013 February.

The story of Barfi is about a deaf & Mute guy Barfi his love interests with the two leading ladies Priyanka Chopra & Ilieana D Cruz & ultimately his heart breaks.

In the movie Priyanka Chopra plays the role of an autistic girl, this movie also marks the debut of southern beauty Ileana D'cruz.

Supran Sen the general secretary of the Film Federation of India told the reporters that among 20 films they have choosen Barfi to represent the country in the Oscars.

The film relesed on September 14 with minimum dialogues has been hugely applauded by the critics & the audience.

The budget of the film was approximately 30 crores. Till sunday (September 23rd) Barfi collected approximately 71.5 crore nett.

The film which is a love story of a happy-go-lucky guy Barfi & an autistic girl released on September 14 in 700 screens all over the country.

This romantic comedy has touched the chord among the critics as well as the audience. The narrative of the movie is very simple. The performance of Ilieana D'cruz has also been applauded by the audience.
