When we see handicapped people or people with physical dassabilities we think that they are very unhappy & they live in a dark world. But Barfi proved that it is totally wrong.
No genre can define Barfi as it only says that Life is precious & beautiful which in a true sense touches the chord of Heart. Barfi teaches us not waste any moment of life & live it just like a King. Barfi is mainly a love story of such a beautiful but physically challenged guy who always remains happy & his romance first with a classy & simple girl Shruti & then with an autistic girl whose name is Jhilmil.
In this movie Ranbir Kapoor plays the character of Barfi. His parents call him Murphy. He is a happy go lucky guy always ready to do something new & always plays pranks with ladies. He cannot speak nor he can listen anyone still he is very popular in Darjeeling.
He had relationship with two beautiful ladies in the movie. The first one is Shruti the character played by Ileana D Cruz & then Jhilmil the character played by Priyanka Chopra. In the mean course many sweet as well as bitter things happened in the life of Barfi which has changed his life upside down.
Anurag Basu is the director of the movie. He is a great storyteller. It is a very simple story & the credit of the movie lies within this simpleness. Barfi is a very confident & courageous guy, he is not violent. Barfi is all about love & sacrifice. The story is handled with great care & sensitivity.
Pritam has given the music of this movie. He again surpassed all the expectations. He has done a marvelous job. His songs are just like poetry, smoothes the ear. Two of the three main characters are speechless in the movie that is why the background score plays a very important role in this movie & Pritam has done that with utmost care. He has delivered one of his best creations in this movie. Ravi Verman is the cinematographer & he also deserves especial mention. The locations were so beautiful it only cools your eyes.
It is not a usual hindi movie. In the movie the hero has no dialogues to deliver & also has no songs to sing. It is an experimental type of film. It is not a typical masala movie which audiences love to see. So there is a huge question mark in its commercial outcome.
The first half is a bit lengthy & can be shortened at several places. But the series of incidents which took place in the second half has made the pace of the movie going.
To play the character of Barfi was not very easy & it is hard to find any other actor other than Ranbir Kapoor who has played this character so brilliantly. He is a true versatile & genius & his choice of movies has proved his intelligence. He has played such a character which would have been tough for many A grade actors to cope with. Since he cannot speak in this movie his body language & facial expressions play a vital role & he has done that with shear confidence & courage & the outcome is excellent.
Priyanka on the other hand has delivered a top notch performance in this movie. The character played by her was Jhilmil & you will just fall in love with that character. Priyanka was just absorbed in her character & she deserves all appreciation. The pairing of Ranbir & Priyanka on screen was a sight to see & cherish.
Iliena is a very good actress in down south & she is very efficient. She was perfect in her character & has done a fabulous job. Note that this is her debut film in Bollywood.
Saurabh Shukla has done a great job, Akash Khurana was excellent, Ashish Vidyarthi was good. Rupa Ganguly & Jishu sengupta has also done a very good job & played their short roles very significantly. Sumona Chakravarthy was perfect. Haradhan Bandopadhyay who plyed the role of Dadu was brilliant.
As a summary Barfi is not an usual bollywood film. One cannot judge the greatness of the movie by its Boxoffice fate, it is just a treat. One makes such movie for his love to cinema. It has triumphed because at last it has left you filled with emotion & happiness. Those who love cinema must watch this movie & should also praise the performances of Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra & Ileana D Cruz who deserve all the applause. Do a favour to youself - go & watch this movie.
